Official Press Release for the 2018 Tour de Timor
dated July 2018
In celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Tour de Timor, Airnorth continues their support of the Tour de Timor, enabling Australian riders and volunteers to participate in this year’s Tour de Timor.
Hearing of the upcoming sponsorship Secretary of State for Youth and Sport, Nelio Isaac Sarmento, praised Airnorth’s ongoing commitment to the Tour de Timor; “I was very pleased to hear that Airnorth have decided to support the Tour de Timor again this year. Their generous in-kind support will allow riders, volunteers and technical staff to access discounted flights, enabling many from our neighbours in Australia to join us in celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the Tour de Timor”.
Tour de Timor spokesperson Mr. Johnny Guterres, said of the sponsorship “Airnorth’s sponsorship is a key component to ensuring a successful event. Airnorth’s sponsorship allows world class mechanics to provide support during this year’s Tour de Timor and to travel to Dili in August to assess bikes of Timorese participants, ensuring their bikes are functioning well, to compete on the world stage in September. Tour de Timor technical crew and the event’s international timing crew will travel on Airnorth to the event. A large contingent of riders from Australia with access to discounted flights will travel on Airnorth from Darwin for the adventure of a lifetime. We are thankful for Airnorth as their sponsorship helps promote Timor-Leste as a great travel and adventure location.”
Airnorth Chief Executive Officer Daniel Bowden was delighted to continue the strong relationship between Airnorth and the Tour de Timor.
“Airnorth has been involved in this spectacular event since its inception. Every year we can contribute to this event is worth celebrating; however, this partnership in 2018 holds special relevance both for the event and Airnorth. In addition to the events 10thanniversary, Airnorth celebrates a milestone of 40 years in aviation this year.
Tour de Timor is an amazing event that attracts riders all around Australia, and beyond. We are committed to this event, that so positively benefits the country. Not only does it boost tourism and businesses for the region; but it allows the gentle and friendly Timorese population to welcome visitors into Timor-Leste, enabling them to strengthen their international connections, and discover the true beauty and tranquillity of the country.
Airnorth is proud to sponsor over 100 deserving causes and charities every year. Tour de Timor continues to be one of Airnorth’s largest sponsorships, and we look forward to another impressive event this September.”
Around 150 riders are expected to ride together through the central mountain region of Timor-Leste. The race will be held between 4th and 8th of September. In addition, the ‘Ride for Peace’ (a short distance non-competitive ride involving school children and participants) will be held on Saturday 1st of September in the capital of Dili.
